Log Cabin – A small cabin with sleeping loft, bathroom, and fireplace.  Used as an office or extra guest house, this cabin is centrally located on the farm and has satellite TV and internet.

Log Cabin Guest House – A private cabin nestled between the wooded mountainside and a small stream.  One bedroom, bath, small kitchen, fireplace, and covered porch.

Caretaker’s Cottage – This charming cottage is private with its own fenced yard. Three bedrooms and two baths.


The grounds surrounding the manor house are well landscaped with mature specimen trees, large hedges, gardens, a heated pool, and a large lake.  The manor house has a gated entrance separate from the rest of the farm that leads to a maple lined drive past the lake and up to a circular parking court.  Large hedges separate the manor grounds from the rest of the farm and provide a private garden area for outdoor living.  A back service entrance allows for staff and service parking near the house.  The lake is both spring and stream fed and is stocked with fish.  A nicely planted island in the middle of the lake provides a focal point to the mountains in the background.


Piedmont Farm has numerous dependencies that allow considerable flexibility in terms of staffing and use.  All houses and outbuildings are in excellent repair.

Pool and Poolhouse – A heated gunite pool with slide and poolhouse housing equipment, filtration and storage is adjacent to the main house.

Garage –  This six bay garage also has an office space and is attached to the caretaker’s cottage.

Slaughter Facility –  Designed to USDA standards, this on-farm slaughter building was set up to process fallow deer raised on the farm, but the design allows for cattle, sheep, hogs or goats to be processed on site with state-of-the-art humane facilities.  Having the facility on site avoids stressing livestock with transport off the farm and allows for customs slaughter on the farm’s schedule.  The building has additional space for expansion or freezer storage space.

Log Barn –  A log barn with 3 box stalls for horses, but can be used for other livestock as well.  A small log cabin is attached.

Corral – The cattle handling facilities can be retrofitted for smaller livestock if necessary.  Includes large weigh station, sorting pens, and grain storage.

Cattle Barns – Two large barns in excellent condition with space for a large indoor feeding area and work space for farm machinery.  Easily converted to lambing and shearing space for a sheep operation and winter quarters for animals if necessary.

The 400 acres of Piedmont Farm are almost equally divided between open pasture land and wooded hillside and river frontage.  There are several small streams on the farm which feed into the Hazel River which forms part of the northern farm boundary and then meanders through the farm as well.  The Hazel is a stocked trout stream. The wooded hillside has a considerable stand of mature hardwoods of harvest-able age.  There several woodland walking and riding trails that provide excellent views of the whole farm and the Piedmont beyond.

Pastures are very well fenced with fencing suitable for cattle, horses, sheep, or goats.   Pastures have a base of orchard grass and fescue and clover that provide excellent grazing throughout the farm and outstanding hay production.  There is water available in every fenced pasture.

Royal exit).  Approximately 77 miles from Washington, DC.  Travel time to downtown DC is 1 Hour 40 minutes (in low traffic situations).  Approximately 1 hour 20 minutes to Dulles International Airport.  1 hour to Charlottesville.  30 minutes to Warrenton, 15 minutes to Culpeper.
